Preface.
This Manual is based on the late Mr. Tam Tat-hin's Guide to Commerce, which is now entirely out of print. In this new edition, I have spared no pains to effect many improvements and amplifications, with a view to its being not only a practically useful book for young beginners, but also a handy reference volume for all traders.
The first part contains the Alphabets, Spelling Exercises, Miscellaneous Sentences, Commercial Terms, Treaties, Tariffs, &c. The second part contains Names of Articles, Specimens of Documents, Papers, Notes, &c., as well as many useful Commercial Tables, Forms, International Flags and a Map of the World.
The work in its present form is submitted for the kind approval of the commercial world and I trust it may be no less serviceable than that of Mr. Tam's.
I shall feel greatly obliged for any suggestions or corrections that may be sent to me in view of a future edition.
